Vinci Construction Awarded £60m Renovation Contract for London Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Vinci Construction has been awarded a £60m contract to renovate the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel in London.

The firm, which will be working under the Plendi brand for the first time, will renovate all public areas and rooms in the landmark hotel.

Overlooking Hyde Park and Knightsbridge, the Mandarin Oriental consists of 167 luxury rooms, 26 suites, and an assortment of public areas, meeting venues, and destination restaurants such as Bar Boulud, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, and the Rosebery coffee lounge.

The refurbishment, which will cover 120,000 square feet, will take place during two phases, each of which will last nine months.The first phase will cover all rooms in the wing facing Knightsbridge while the rooms overlooking Hyde Park will be part of phase two. Two massive penthouse suites will also be constructed as an extension on the ninth floor roof. Each one will have floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the park.

Specialists in Construction Insurance

Vinci Construction has assembled a team of companies that specialise in the renovation and restoration of luxury hotels and residential buildings under the Plendi brand. The outdoor woodworking will be carried out by French firm Bourneuf and Portuguese company Bec while the Italian and French group Ildei Sfim will provide and install marble for interior fixtures. Gohard, the French design specialist, will perform all gilding work.  A wide range of high quality marble will be used, including stone from Greece and Carrare marble. Antique headboards and mirrors and headboards will feature metal mesh or glass encrusted with gold leaf.

Previous projects for VINCI Construction include such prestigious venues as the five-star Hilton Hotel in Vietnam and the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs-Elysées in Paris.

All work will be supervised by Tihany, who has worked with Daniel Boulud and Heston Blumenthal, and Joyce Wang Studio, which recently oversaw a project at Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong.
