Gilbane Building Company, a recognised construction services industry leader, recently received two Irish Construction Industry Awards.
Its Global Technology & Innovation Centre Project in Kerry took the top place in two categories: Commercial Project of the Year and Industrial Project of the Year.
The Irish Construction Industry Awards were established to honour and acclaim construction companies that demonstrate high work standards, adhere faithfully to client budgets and satisfaction, and maintain a work environment that is both healthy and safe. Available in multiple categories, the Awards recognise, inspire, and acclaim innovative and unique people, companies, and projects that exhibit construction field excellence.
Ian Howard, Kerry Group’s Engineering and Projects Director EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), said that working with Gilbane on the Global Technology & Innovation Centre Project involved a transparent and collaborative approach that was highly beneficial to both sides. This high level of partnership resulted in the delivery of a superior-quality project on time and under budget, and with a first-rate health and safety record.
Mr Howard said that during the build, a combination of leading-edge approaches and technologies were implemented: BIM, phased design / procurement, lean construction methods. Advanced Risk Management techniques were also employed, while aiming for LEED® Silver certification.

The Global Technology and Innovation Centre, which measures 282,000 square feet, was designed to support the Kerry Group’s regional and global EMEA clients. The facility, which is dedicated to commercialisation of customer production, contains executive offices, research and development sections, customer application rooms, sensory applications. The new Centre acts as an important focal point for Kerry’s customer engagement efforts by providing access to the group’s complete portfolio of scientific research, applications, technologies, and innovation across the beverage, food, and pharmaceutical markets.
Adam Jelen, the Kerry project’s Senior Vice President and Operations head, said that the team worked over 900,000 hours without losing any time and recycled 2,181 tons of building materials. The Kerry Group’s commitment to safety and the environment, underscored by its progressive philosophy, propelled these impressive production levels.
