The unexpected discovery of a fault in its glass roof has caused local authorities to temporarily close the Clickimin swimming pool until further notice.
The Shetland Recreational Trust stated that the problem, which exists in the glazed roof over the pool, needs to be investigated and corrected before the facility will be open to the public once again.
The main sports hall will remain open, but the main pool, toddler’s pool, soft play area, health suite, flumes, river, and cafe will be closed until appropriate repairs have been made.
Shetland Recreational Trust manager James Johnston apologised for any inconvenience that customers of the Clickimin swimming pool may experience during the investigation and repairs, but emphasised that safety is always the trust’s first priority.
Mr Johnston said that the trust has been in discussions with SIC building control officers and structural engineers and decided to close the complex’s swimming pool section to both staff and the public until the problem can be resolved.
